8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)
Has anyone ever asked you how confident you are that you will spend eternity with God? If not, allow me to ask you that right now. What do you think? On a scale of 1-10, how confident are you? Why did you give the number that you did?
Athlete, you have been trained your entire life to believe that what you get is contingent upon how hard you work. This works in athletics, but not with God. Ephesians 2:8-9 says that your salvation is a gift from God and not something that you can earn.
Your confidence in your salvation should be based on what God has done for you, not what you have done (or failed to do) for Him. He wants the credit.
So, what has He done for you? John 3:16 tells us:
“For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NASB)
Do you believe in what God has done for you? If so, you can confidently answer with a 10! Rest in the fact that God has done all of the work to make this possible and He NEVER backs down from His promises.
