5 "The Lord is righteous within her; He will do no injustice. Every morning He brings His justice to light; He does not fail. But the unjust knows no shame."
Zephaniah 3:5 (NIV)
It's hard to live in a world that's full of judgments made that are not right, where wrong calls are whistled and right calls are questioned so strongly that men buckle and the call goes the other way. In this world the unjust know no shame. This is tough stuff! When wrong seems right and right seems wrong, when justice is perverted, things get topsy-turvy, it becomes easy to ask: where is the justice?
What's meant to fix all this? In the sports world the prevailing path taken now is the idea of going to the monitor. Technology jumps in. The human element gets taken out...but still it steps back in, it seems. How much better off are we? I’m not sure.
Scripture says that God sees rightly and will not fall to injustice. He keeps proper score. His justice will win. He brings enough light to situations so that wrong won't continue...and does so daily. God is always committed to justice. It's fully ingrained in his character. He faithfully brings out the monitor to show us what the right call should be. He is the Monitor. The screen is His Word. The cables are prayer, the press of His Spirit and His righteous community counsel.
Do we watch God’s monitor, taking a good look, upending personal pride, knocking down the idols of Power, Comfort and Control that so easily get in the way, and go with His call and trust Him?
Athlete, let's keep going to the Monitor to make right calls, seeing things the right way, the way He does, and fully aligning. A watching world needs to see right calls play out. We do too. Let justice roll.
