Athlete, God Brings Order Out of Chaos

God Brings Order Out of Chaos

27  “The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”

Genesis 1:27 (ESV)

The Bible is pretty clear that we are created in God’s image. The implications of this reality stretch far and wide. One such implication is that we are to image God by acting like Him. We get a glimpse of how He acts in the second verse recorded in the Bible.

Genesis 1:2 says that the earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

What happens next is fascinating. The third verse in Genesis 1 tells us that God said, “Let there by light,” and there was light.

Athlete, do you see what just took place? God stared into the face of chaos and created order. How does this look in sports? Simply put, we follow the rules. We compete by the rules all the time because they express what is orderly, fair and just (God’s character), in order for the game to flourish. As an image bearer of the most high God, are you acting like Him in this regard or are you contributing to the chaos?
