13-14 "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me."
John 16:13-14 (NIV)
The term, 'Associate Head Coach' is reserved for one who functions for all practical purposes as the Head Coach.
The same goes for the Spirit of God. Jesus has moved off the earthly stage...for a while. The Holy Spirit has assumed his sideline role and brings a sweet and strong sense of his presence. He functions as Jesus here and now. Specifically, here's how the Spirit functions and what we get when we live according to the Spirit:
TRAIL BOSS. The Spirit shows us the truth, the way, in life. You can't get lost with Him. He's too good a guide. He knows the Northstar. That means that to follow the Spirit is to find the motherload of truth.
RELAY MAN. The Spirit exists to connect us to God. He declares and defines Christ. He brings the Word to us. He functions in complete harmony with Jesus. He only sings duets, never solos. When we get Him, we get God.
FORECASTER. The Spirit makes us confident about our future because he knows how things play out and let's us know where we're headed. God doesn't want us to live in the dark until the end. He offers Spirit-light now.
GLORIFIER. The Spirit revels in making Jesus famous. He promotes and exalts Christ. Whenever we do this too, the Spirit comes. And when the Spirit comes, glory rises and we receive fulfilling joy too.
Athlete, how are you doing at noticing and following the Spirit?
