Athlete, Put Jesus on Stage

Put Jesus on Stage

21,22  “When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. As He was praying, the heavens opened and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are My Son whom I love; with You I am well pleased.’"

Luke 3:21-22 (NIV)

"The simple leads to the spectacular." - Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors. It's funny how a single moment can change everything. I think back to such a moment in Madison Square Garden in 1970. NY Knicks captain and Hall of Famer Willis Reed entered the arena, made an unexpected, hobbled appearance on the court, and a great spirit came over many and changed the destiny of a franchise forever after.

Similarly, Scripture shows us that when Jesus simply, humbly took the stage, the Spirit came too. It happened at Christ's baptism and it happens among us too. You see, whenever Jesus gets lifted up and His gospel truly plays out in us and through us, the Spirit comes. And whenever He comes, fullness is felt and power to change bursts forth.

Athlete, put Jesus on center stage. Lift Him up, make much of Him, and make Him known. Let's preach this gospel and showcase Him in and through our lives. And expect the Spirit of God to powerfully support this exaltation somehow, someway. That's what He loves to do. The Spirit loves to come as we make Jesus as big as He really is and proclaim the gospel as we ought.

Who's got center stage in your life? Are others seeing fullness and power following an exalted Jesus in you? The simple leads to the spectacular.
