8-9 "Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him have no lack!”
Psalm 34:8-9 (ESV)
Are you relentlessly pursuing personal goals with the hope that achieving them will provide lasting satisfaction? Are you chasing a contentment that depends on gaining enough accolades to validate your success? Let me ask you a question: how is that working out for you? Has any amount of success in your sport ever satisfied you longer than a few weeks? Have you ever wondered why personal satisfaction is so hard to find?
It is because you were not made for this world. God says in Ecclesiastes that He has set eternity in the hearts of men. If that is true (and it is), that means no amount of earthly success can bring us the contentment we desire. How can we satisfy that burning desire in our souls?
Psalm 38:8-9 says this: “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints, for those who fear him have no lack!”
We are created by a God who knows us better than we know ourselves. In God’s economy, the way we become satisfied is by resting in Him alone.
This does not mean you should stop relentlessly pursuing goals. Please don’t misunderstand the point. The point is that your earthly goals will never bring you the ultimate satisfaction you truly desire. Only God can. And He offers it freely.
