11-12 "But the Lord stands beside me like a great warrior. Before Him my persecutors will stumble. They cannot defeat me. They will fail and be thoroughly humiliated. Their dishonor will never be forgotten…for I have committed my cause to You."
Jeremiah 20:11–12 (NLT)
When you stand with God, God stands with you.
Jeremiah stood with God, stood for God, yet often felt like he stood alone. He took it on the chin from without and within. A sense of failure loomed. Smells of defeat burned around him. Still, he makes triumphant statements like this one, so sure that:
He's not really alone (20:11). Victory is held in store for the upright (Proverbs 2:7). God is a shield to those whose walk is blameless (Proverbs 2:7). God guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones (Proverbs 2:8).
You have to love Jeremiah's resolve, resilience and ability to rebound! It's all rooted in his committing his cause to God. If we commit ourselves to God and to stand with Him in our fight against sin and evil, we can be assured that He stands with us, fighting with us and for us. Any other alignment is destined to fail.
