Surrender

9  "But He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Legendary coach Bob Knight strikingly said, "The most dangerous man in a fight is the one who doesn't care if he lives or dies." Such a man brings a certain sense of carelessness, surrender, death that signals his victory before it's fought. You can't really kill him because he's already dead.

Still, surrender seems like such an admission of failure…but not when it comes to The Lord! Surrendering to His Lordship, bowing to His rightful authority in our lives, yielding to the processes and purposes He has ordained, all make the man. The breaking is the making. Death becomes life. Surrender becomes victory.

Jesus says His grace overrides and more than compensates. His strength is way better than mine and is actually activated, applied, unleashed and perfected in the midst of my surrendered weakness.

Athlete, here's the big takeaways....

  1. Surrender is the key to victory when Christ is the one to whom I surrender. God's power in my life is uncorked there.

  2. Take weaknesses and failures and actually start boasting in them so that Christ's power may rest upon me. Then I will experience greater victory and God gets greater glory!
