5 “But Moses said to the LORD, ‘Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since You have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue ... Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.'”
Exodus 4:10,13 (ESV)
If you are like most athletes, you believe in God. You trust Him. You try to be obedient to Him … as long as that doesn’t mean telling others about Him. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
It is OK to admit that there is an uneasiness that you feel when pressed to share with others about God. Maybe you have heard of this guy in the Bible named Moses. God asked him straight up to lead the people of Israel out of slavery, and he felt extremely unequipped for the role. Check out his response in Exodus 4:10, 13:
“But Moses said to the LORD, ‘Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since You have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue ... Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.’”
I love that. God, please send someone else to do it. It is OK to be honest with God about where we are at. The beautiful thing about God is that He loves us where we are, He just doesn’t want us to stay there. Moses eventually moved forward, even though he was still a little freaked out. He obeyed and trusted God to use him despite his inadequacies. And God used him in some incredible ways.
What would it look like for you to engage one of your teammates today in conversation about things that actually matter? Be like Moses, admit your fear. Get over it and trust God. Move forward.
