Athlete, You are Secure

12  For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.

2 Chronicles 20:12 (ESV)

Have you ever been weighed down by the expectation to perform perfectly? You may be imposing this expectation upon yourself, or you may be thinking that others are expecting it of you. And that weight may be intensified by your coach who is pushing you toward perfection and controlling your playing time. In an Old Testament story, opposing armies are closing in on God’s people. The king of God’s people could have rallied the troops or tried to control the situation in any number of ways. What did he decide to do? He prayed.

“For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You." 2 Chronicles 20:12

First, he admitted he had no control. Second, he gave control to God. What a great model for us to follow! Read the next few verses to see what happened after he prayed.

Athlete, you are secure because God is in control of the circumstances of your life, even when things feel out of control and even when you are not getting the results you had hoped for in your sport.
