10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
It is a pretty fun experience to have fans, coaches, teammates and family cheering you on when things are going well. It is exciting to have success and to have others recognize you for it.
It is also dangerous.
Athlete, where do you find your self-worth? Do a self-assessment, and figure out if you are putting your self-worth in what others think of you or in what God thinks of you. Others’ opinions of you will usually fluctuate, based on your performance. God’s opinion of you is based on His performance, and that never changes.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are significant because of what God declares true of us, not what others think. It says that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
You are the workmanship of God. You are significant because He gives you purpose that transcends your performance, a purpose that flows out of playing a role in His unfolding story. Rest in that truth today.
