Athlete, You Have Limits

You Have Limits

5  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)

I know you do not want to hear this … but you have limits. This is not a plea to stop trying; quite the opposite. When you realize that God has created you with a specific skill that you can steward to the best of your ability, you become free to stop playing the “what if” game.

You know that game.

“What if my coach gave me more playing time?”

“What if I didn’t get injured?”

“What if the ref didn’t screw me over?”

The default mode of our hearts when confronted by our limits is to blame others. What if God has a limit for our skill level and success? What if all He desires is that we give everything we have to honor Him and let go of the “what ifs”?

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

God knew exactly who Jeremiah was before he was born. He knew what he would do, when he would do it, and how well he would do it. Why would God let Jeremiah in on this secret? Why would he let you in on this secret? It does not mean we just give up. It means we are free to give everything, and trust that God will use our efforts to bring about the results He desires. He wants us to trust in Him, whatever the outcome. Athlete, are you ready to trust him?
