11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV)
I used to think of God’s plans for me as general, with the vague shape of an amoeba, as if God were watching me from somewhere high above and cheering me on from a distance. Or maybe He was following safely behind me, hoping that I blob, amoeba-like, in the right direction.
This view of God as my cosmic cheerleader couldn’t be any further from the truth.
In reality, God is leading me from the front, actively directing, involved in my daily movements and ultimate destination.
He has made me in a unique way so that I can walk in the purposes that He has prepared for me.
Scripture confirms God’s supernatural care and direction in our lives.
“The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9 NASB).
“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them” (Psalm 139:16 ESV).
“For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV).
I find great comfort in these truths because I realize that I have the greatest director (no offense, Mr. Spielberg) of all time.
Athlete, God not only directs us well, He gives us His Son, Jesus, as our example to follow and His Holy Spirit to empower us so that we are able to follow.
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Galatians 2:20 ESV).
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever” (John 14:16).
“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
Christian, God is at work in you right now, and His plans for you are good!
