8 “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
Psalm 34:8 (ESV)
I don’t know where you are, but I do know that God is good in the midst of every emotion you are feeling. With the power of Jesus, we don’t have to let the extreme highs and devastating lows of life toss us about.
You might be thinking, “This sounds nice but you don’t know what I just went through.” And you are right -- I don’t know your situation.
But you are in luck because I have had those same thoughts when someone was trying to comfort me. Psalms 34 can give us the the hope and peace that we long for.
David knew what it was like to suffer. Not only did David’s best friend’s dad try to kill him, but when David was older, one of his own sons tried to kill him.
Men were hunting for David day and night, yet He had faith that God was strong and powerful. He praised God in the storm.
In Psalm 34, David tells us why he knew that God was good.
- God answers our prayers (Psalm 34:4).
- He delivers us from our fears (Psalm 34:4).
- He makes us radiant, so we never need to feel ashamed (Psalm 34:5).
- He hears us (Psalm 34:6).
- He saves us from our trouble (Psalm 34:6).
- He is near to us when we are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
The list can go on and on. But in this Psalm, David reminds us of God’s goodness and protection. The God of the universe is in our corner, and He is for us.
David had every right to run from God, but he didn’t. He leaned into the situation and recalled God’s goodness.
Reflect: So how can we see that God is good?
Look back on what God has given you in the past and how He helped you. Write them out so you can remember.
Thank Him for these blessings through prayer. Remember that you don’t have to perform for these blessings. They are gifts, and God gives them to you because He loves you.
A prayer to consider: Lord, thank You for protecting me, loving me and making me radiant. I am significant in you. Help me to remember the goodness that You have given me in the past.
