Athlete, He is All You Need

He is All You Need

5  “When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward Him, He said to Philip, ‘Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?’”

John 6:5 (NIV)

Here's what I see in this scenario:

Jesus and His squad (12 disciples) were about to be mob-rushed by 5,000 men plus women and children. They knew He “had game” and wanted to catch the action. He embraced the moment beautifully and didn't exploit it.

Jesus didn't just see a crowd. He saw souls. He sensed their needs. He practiced awareness and mindfulness. It won the day. And 5,000 to 10,000 people were fully fed and well taught. Jesus saw opportunities to serve, not just to be served. He maxed His moments.

Here's what I think Jesus wants us to see in this scenario:

He has questions too! And He loves to aim them at us! So let's welcome them.

His questions are often setups. They're asked to get us going in His direction. He isn't clueless, looking for answers. He just wants to get us thinking well with Him.

He wants us to repeatedly discover that to have Him is to have enough. This is the discovery of a lifetime. As long as He's present, we're good. All is well.

He wants us to live a life of selfless service too. That's where His power and our fulfillment is found.

Reflect: What seems daunting in your life right now? What need in you or around you appears way bigger than you can handle? Do you believe that to have Him is to have enough? Where else might you be looking to meet your needs?

A prayer to consider: Jesus, thank You for sensing my needs. You faithfully feed me in all kinds of ways, on all kinds of fronts. To have You is to have enough. Help me to keep living in this confidence, fearless and free. I run no other direction today. You're the best! I love You! Amen.
