2 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
Colossians 3:2 (ESV)
Our citizenship has changed. It is now in heaven with our Lord Jesus in whom we await.
The Bible says that we are now foreigners and exiles to this world, our passions and desires being changed by the Holy Spirit to be more like that of God’s. Still our old sinful passions and desires exist to wage war and compete with those of the Spirit.
Though there are an abundance of good things on earth that God has gifted to us, they are all meant to lead us into a deeper love for Him. Often we worship the gifts that God has given us instead of seeing them as a means to worship Him.
One way to combat this temptation is by meditating on the Word of God. In the Bible we find truths to help us fight temptations on earth and treasures that will make us hungry for more of His Word and less desirous of what the world has to offer us.
In his Word, we learn of the greatest truth and treasure of all: Jesus Christ.
A prayer to consider: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to set my mind on things that are above and not on things that are on earth. Help me to be more desirous for Your Word and less of what the world has to offer.
May my passions and desires become more in line with Your will. In Jesus name, Amen.
