Athlete, This is Where We Stand

This is Where We Stand

19-22  "That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church."

Ephesians 1:19–22 (NIV)

The jump between each level of athletic competition proves bigger than we think. School ball to AAU/club ball, to college ball, to the pro ranks, to the Olympics ... each step intensifies. In each attempt to ascend to the next level, we find out if we have what it takes.

But Scripture points us to One who transcends all. No one shares the platform with Him. Ever. Here's how the Bible explains the status of Jesus.

  • Jesus is FAR ABOVE. The gap between us and Him is farther than we think no matter how high we rise. No authority or influence is greater. He's above every title ever conferred.

  • UNDER HIS FEET is the highest a man will ever rise. Seeing Jesus' soles is the best we can hope for when we try to compete with Him.

So how do we respond to this?

  1. Stop trying to exalt ourselves. It won't work.

  2. Take rank with the all-time winner. Get in His wake and experience His winning ways.

  3. Be grateful for every moment when Jesus draws near. His stoop to save is so beautiful.

  4. Be humble in our rise too.

A prayer to consider: LORD, no one compares to You. No man works like You. Don't let me think I can try to unseat You and still win. Help me get over me and into You. Keep me in my place, yet still growing. You are far above all. Thank You for coming near still. You're the best!
