12-13 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”
Ephesians 6:12-13 (ESV)
In football, a blitz is when the entire defense attacks the quarterback. Have you ever felt blitzed?
Before the play even starts, a quarterback has many options planned for how to get the ball down the field. He can run it, pass it off to the running back, throw it down field and so on. The added variable is the defense playing against him. The defense is looking to intercept, stop or shut down the play all together.
Athlete, you have a defense playing against you every day as you consider your options for life. That defense is the spiritual forces of evil in this world, and they do not want you to win.
The blitz happens when things go from being challenging to just downright tough. The defense goes from covering your options to a full-on attack upon you. You may get tackled in that blitz, but you will never be crushed.
2 Corinthians 4:8-10 says that, “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.”
Athlete, with faith in Jesus, you will not be crushed. You will never be forsaken. You won’t be destroyed.
Challenge: Read Ephesians 6:10-20 to find out about the armor you can put on as a Christian. You have a Savior who can relate to being blitzed, and He will give you the power to push through.
