16,17 "I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith."
Ephesians 3:16,17 (NIV)
You know you're settled in when:
- Finding light switches in the dark becomes easy
- No GPS is needed to get where you're going
- You can picture which local grocery aisle has bread, milk, diapers, peanut butter or cereal
- Team huddles feel just right
- Your playing stance in your given sport finally feels comfortable
- Relationship fear is gone, the need to impress is over, and people know your name
- Forgiveness is always found, and you know you're perfectly loved (Those last two bullets are big time!)
Scripture calls us to get to a place personally where Jesus is settled in, where He's not a visitor or door-to-door salesman, but a heart resident. It means He is at ease with me, and I am at ease with Him. It means He comfortably dwells IN my heart and not just nearby.
He can go wherever He wants there. He can bring up any subject, weigh in on any issue, perform any heart surgery needed, go along on any date, use whatever I have, look in my closets, access my refrigerator or wallet, control my remote and lead me wherever He wants.
There's no hiding from Him. I'm fully known and still fully loved. That's what it means to have Jesus settled in, dwelling in my heart.
We tend to think of Christ above and beyond, but Christ is really best found within, wanting to take up residence there. The heart is where He best dwells.
Reflect: Where do you find Christ dwelling? Afar? Nearby? Within? Is He settled in with you? Has He established permanent residence?
If there is some way you're not comfortable with your life right now, maybe the best thing to do is to make Jesus comfortable within your heart first, and watch what happens next.
A prayer to consider: LORD, dwell well in me. Make Yourself at home. In You, relationship fear flies, the need to impress vanishes, wisdom abounds, forgiveness is found, and I am perfectly loved. Thank You for pitching Your tent here, with us, with me. You're the best soulmate anyone could ever have!
