Athlete, Here Are Two Ships That Must Sail

Here Are Two Ships That Must Sail

19  "Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord."

Ephesians 5:19 (Berean Study Bible)

One of my very favorite summertime activities has become jet skiing. It's exhilarating to grab a family member or friend and take those little “ships” roaring out to “sea,” playing on a beautiful lake.

I love riding them in pairs especially, racing boats and romping waves together. That's wet 'n wild adventure and my preferred water sport. Do you love jet skiing?

God calls for a pair of ships to be launched too. He wants them zipping along at full throttle in us. Here they are:

  1. FELLOWSHIP. God wants people known for their gathering, a turning to each other, launching mutual exhortation that centers around Him, having a shared experience with Him.

He wants synergistic living playing out among His people. He wants team huddles and tons of team ball being played for Him. He wants lots of jet skis out in the water, making memories of Him together. See Psalm 95:1-11.

  2. WORSHIP. This ship must be launched too. Just as a boat is made for the sea, we were made for worship. Worship FROM the heart, worship IN the heart is what He wants to see. It may play out in silence but often flows best on the lakes of music and song. Get the worship boat out to sea. Don't dock this one.

Reflect:

  • How's your fellowship going? Are you speaking and being spoken to in life-giving ways? Or are you riding the seas too often alone? Are you asking others to join you in adventure, and joining in with others too?

  • How's your worship going? Are you untying the ropes and pushing out into the deep in your worship? Are you finding good songs in your heart and expressing them back to God?

A prayer to consider: LORD, help me to obey Your command to undock and sail these two ships all over. I see this in the life of Jesus. Recreate it in me.
