What's your go-to greeting? How do you like to be greeted? Is it one of these: Wazzup? Hiya! Yo bro'! Hey there!

Maybe your preference is just a firm handshake, good dap, or freely given hug coupled with a surefire smile.

Whatever your go-to move may be, we all love to be acknowledged and need to acknowledge others. And good eye contact seals the deal. This kind of human connect right out of the gate feels so good.

Note Jesus' unique greeting for His disciples in John 20. He opened with, "Peace be with you." What a way to engage! Those four words can really set special tone and settle a soul.

When Jesus said, "Peace be with you," what was He conveying to His posse, His boys and, in turn, to us right off the bat?

• Peace is a PERSON. To have Him is to have peace.

• Peace is POSSIBLE. It does arrive. It does come. That's good news to a troubled world.

• His peace is PERFECT. It's the best kind of peace. It passes understanding (Isaiah 26:3).

• His peace PROTECTS. It guards my heart and mind. It doesn't let me get anxious in my heart, spiritually lost or whacky in my thoughts (Philippians 4:7).

• His peace is PERMANENT. It's not based on circumstance. It lives above that. Circumstances change, God's peace remains. It abides and assures forever (Isaiah 32:17).

So when we greet others with, "Peace be with you," as Jesus did, we are wishing them a peace that's personal, possible, perfect, protective and permanent. What a great way to be greeted! What a great way to greet!

Reflect: Are you believing that peace is foremost a Person? (To have Him is to have peace.) Are you reminding yourself of God's perfect peace?

Are you greeting others with reminders of God's peace? Who needs to be reminded of His peace today?

A prayer to consider: LORD, thank You for greeting us all so well. Being reminded of Your peace is so critical, so beautiful, so powerful. Help me to greet others as You did, wishing Your peace and bringing it to others every time I connect.
