1 “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry.”
Psalm 40:1 (NIV)
The energy that is generated on a football field while a referee reviews a play is something to experience. Everyone in the stadium -- including the fans, coaches, players, ushers and even the commentators -- is at the mercy of the referee. They are all waiting in eager expectation for what the referee is going to reveal. They have no choice but to wait for the ref to decide on the call.
The truth of the matter is that many of the fans do not wait patiently. Many are screaming their lungs out and throwing things. At times even the players are restless. In this Scripture passage, David says, “I waited patiently … ” David is at the mercy of God’s response to his cry. He can’t rush God into answering his prayer.
How do we respond when we are believing God for something? Do we wait patiently in faith, knowing and believing that God hears our cries? Athlete, our attitude during this stage is an indicator of our level of trust in the Lord. If we can trust an imperfect ref to make the right call during a game, how much more can we put our trust in the One who always makes the right call?
