These Things Trigger Thanksgiving

15  "For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God."

2 Corinthians 4:15 (ESV)

Thanksgiving that overflows is touching to witness. Gratefulness expressed to that degree is moving. Something great must have happened. An accomplishment, a circumstance, an awareness or a relationship must have triggered it. It's so great to feel thanksgiving well up in your soul.

When thanksgiving overflows, fears vanish and wholeness moves in. Fresh confidence marks those who are thankful. They are ready to move forward and never feel stuck.

In case you're looking for a few ideas to trigger your thanksgiving to overflowing, consider these pointers:

PUSH GRACE: When grace gets out, thanksgiving goes up. It always happens. When we give grace to others like God graces us, thanksgiving automatically multiplies. Grace makes thanksgiving come alive. So let's push grace to make thanksgiving flow.

CULTIVATE WONDER: Wonder is a soil that allows thanksgiving to grow. It destroys cynicism that wants to grow and threaten our thanksLIVING. The better our wonder gets, the more our thanksgiving rises. ("The cynical are never curious, and the curious are never cynical." - Carey Nieuwhof) Indeed, curiosity and wonder make room for thanksgiving to grow, so cultivate wonder.

ACCENT GIVING. “Giving” is meant to come before “Thanks,” not just after it. I don't just give because I was given to. I can give first. Thanks gets birthed and goes viral once giving takes the lead.

So if we want thanksgiving to grow in us, grace, wonder and giving must trigger us.

Reflect: Which thanksgiving trigger resonates best with you – grace, wonder or giving? Which thanksgiving trigger needs to be pulled in you a little more?

A prayer to consider: LORD, help me to see grace better in and around me. Eliminate cynicism in me that stifles my curiosity and kills my thanksgiving. Let wonder win. Don't let me wait to get before I give. May I give before receiving. I want my thanksgiving to overflow.
