Listen to Creation

19,20  "For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse."

Romans 1:19,20 (ESV)

Life can be pretty noisy.

Regardless of the time of year – off season, pre-season, competition or post-season – we’re faced with life’s demands, possibilities and obstacles.

If our circumstances weren’t challenging enough, we are bombarded every day by the chatter of our culture. Words, images, video and sound vie for our attention literally everywhere we go, mainly because we take it with us everywhere we go. We’re mobile.

It’s no surprise, then, that God can seem distant, hard to hear, even silent some days. But is He silent? Or are we hard of hearing? I’m pretty sure, it’s the latter.

But this week, we’re going to have the opportunity to hone our hearing. We’re going to consider five megaphones God faithfully uses to deliver life-changing messages of grace and truth.

The first is often referred to as “general revelation,” or the testimony of creation.

“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse” (Romans 1:19,20).

King David tells us in Psalm 19, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.” (Psalm 19:1,2)

Set aside some time today to listen to the voice of creation. Thank God for all that the beauty, power, complexity and enormity reveal about His nature. Celebrate the gift of knowledge given you by the world you inhabit.
