1,5 "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God … Put to death therefore what is earthly in you …"
Colossians 3:1,5 (ESV)
I’m really just like Lazarus. I was spiritually dead in my sin, buried in my grave clothes, with decaying flesh. And Jesus took pity on me, calling me forth from my grave. What a strange and wonderful feeling it is to come out of the tomb.
Because Christ conquered sin and death, I’m now walking dead to sin and alive to Jesus. Because Jesus’ tomb is empty, my tomb is empty too!
This is not your typical zombie story. Yes, I’m a “walker,” as they call them on the popular show “The Walking Dead,” but in my death to sin and self, I’m more alive than I’ve ever been.
However, the trick to being a good zombie is to rid oneself of old grave clothes. Have I completely unwrapped the clothes and let them drop off, or are my old clothes binding me, tripping me up and dragging me down?
Have I replaced those rags with fresh, white garments? Or am I sporting inappropriate attire for my new life?
Also, good zombies should be spreading a sweet aroma as they walk. Am I sweet smelling, or am I stinking it up and holding onto the smell of death?
Things that smell of death and bind us up are sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed, idolatry, anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language and lying, to name a few.
Has death changed how I live?
According to Colossians 3, it has changed everything about how I now live!
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above … put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature …” Colossians 3:1,5 (NIV)
A prayer to consider: Lord, make me the best “zombie” ever — dead to the old things, but fully alive to You!
