Here are Some Irrefutable Laws

44  “While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.”

Acts 10:44 (ESV)

There are physical laws that invisibly, inevitably, irrefutably govern the universe. Here are a few of the quiet ones:

  • What goes up must come down.
  • The earth cools after rain and after sunset.
  • Darkness always flees in the presence of light.

And then there’s another powerful law of life, both a physical and personal one: What goes around comes around. Indeed, you reap what you sow (Galatians 6:7,8).

As Acts chapter 10 closes, a few other personal/spiritual laws pop out too. They help us see that you can reap more than you sow, as well.

When the Word of God is declared clearly, simply, selflessly, things happen.

When Jesus is exalted, and His story is highlighted, the Spirit comes. And He comes in power (Acts 1:8).

When I abide in Him, in other words, when God’s story gets woven into me and my story gets woven into His, and others learn this, then worship spreads and a changed-lives movement grows (John 15:4,5).

In Acts 10 we see this play out. A whole new people group responds beautifully to the gospel because the Scriptures were declared well, personal stories were woven in, and much was made of Jesus.

Right worship happened, God’s Spirit invaded people but good, and others joined the movement freely and fearlessly. It always happens when the Word and Jesus go well on display in us, through us. This is a powerful, irrefutable law.

Reflect: Who is most exalted in your life? How much of God’s Word and His story is regularly getting into and flowing out of your life? Are you reaping more than you sow, and do you like the results?

A prayer to consider: O LORD, make the whole greater than the sum of the parts in me, through me. Help me know and declare Your Word and make much of Jesus.

I want Your words and Your truth multiplied into the hearts of many for Your glory. Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me. Amen.
