4 "Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in obedience to Him."
Psalm 128:1 (NIV)
Life is full of laws that link. What do you think of these for starters?
- Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
- Humility comes before honor.
- You reap what you sow.
- The early bird catches the worm.
- A soft answer turns away wrath.
- Branch and vine are better together. Wins and losses in life often boil down to understanding laws like these.
God's Word brings attention to another strong link. It links blessing to this pair: a relationship and an action, to both whom we belong to and to what we do. It reminds us that blessing links to “fear of the Lord” and to a beautiful, proper obedience to Him.
One more thing ... God doesn't say how and when the blessing of obedience to Him will appear. He just says it's inevitable. He is faithful and He will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:24). So hang in there. Trust the link. He's good.
Reflect: How obedient is your walk with God? Are you seeing the link of obedience and blessing playing out in your life? Are you trusting Him to bring this to pass whenever, however? Are you cultivating a proper fear of God that's driving you to further obedience of Him?
Prayer to consider today: LORD, I love the way You link life to You. You're beautiful, brilliant, matchless, simply the best. Thank You for showing me what full obedience and blessing looks like through your Son Jesus. Help me to fear and serve You as I ought and experience all the blessings this kind of obedient living brings.
