4 "But the LORD is righteous; He has cut me free from the cords of the wicked."
Psalm 129:4 (NIV)
Being untied is a great feeling. Freedom from fear, oppression, bondage and chains feels so beautifully weightless. Freedom to roam and explore, to dream and do, to run and play exhilarates and renews. It's what every man and woman hopes for, and what every athlete must have in good doses before victory is won.
Like a good coach, God is committed to cutting people loose. He unleashes. He emancipates. He releases. He frees people in two ways:
FREES FROM: The LORD cuts people loose FROM the oppression of others, the weight of sin, regret of the past, hopelessness of the present and fear of the future. Failure, guilt and shame can't stick no mo'.
FREES TO: The LORD unleashes people TO see a great future, build brand-new starts, entertain fresh hope, embrace a better game plan, experience promised victory. He releases for good reason.
All this is a result of God's faithful commitment to bring His righteousness to a world that constantly enslaves and gets enslaved. The LORD is righteous. And He's powerfully committed to releasing us to experience the same.
Reflect: What sin is binding you? What system of thought is enslaving? What person is ensnaring you and unwittingly holding you hostage? Based on God's strong commitment to your righteousness, what new hope for victory are you entertaining? Are you letting God cut you loose?
Prayer to consider today: LORD, keep cutting me loose. I want Your righteousness defending, supporting and unleashing me to be all that I was meant to be. Thank you for your wonderful commitment to victory in my life. Keep me fresh and free in the game, fighting hard for the heart of my King.
