5,6 “Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you and you be found a liar.”
Proverbs 30:5,6 (ESV)
Larry Bird is nicknamed “Larry Legend.” He could really ball out.
God in Christ is the ultimate “living legend.” He delivers on His promises. He can't miss. He defends like crazy. He backs up His Word with action. He will not be upstaged; He will get the last word. That comes forth clearly in Proverbs 30:5,6.
Let's take a closer look to make personal application:
TRUSTWORTHY: God's words hold up under scrutiny. They consistently hit the mark like a team that can't miss or a shooter whose shots always seem to find the target.
God's words prove true. Count on them to score. And build the offensive game plan of your life around His ability to do just that.
REFUGE: God is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. (What a great promise and comfort!) Those who don't find Him have no real cover. They operate on their own, unprotected.
So build the defensive game plan of your life around the Lord.
LAST WORD: God gets the last word. So let Him. Don't try to take it from Him and offer your own. Don't add to what He's said because you don't like it or want to spin things another way that suits you better. That won't work. He'll call you out.
So build the last word on any decision you face around the Lord (and stay away from others who try to have the last word on Him too).
Reflect: Are you doubting something God has said and entertaining unbelief? What comes to mind? Do you need some refuge right now, and do you know where to go to find it? Get there.
Are you fighting to get the last word or surrendering this to Him? Are you being careful not to follow anyone else who adds things to the Scriptures?
A prayer to consider: LORD Jesus, You are the Living Legend! Keep wowing me with the ways that You prove Your words true. Be my shield, my rock, my refuge. I leave the last word to You on anything I face today. Amen and Amen.
