Find Your Fulfilling Purpose

36  “Now when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.”

Acts 13:36 (NIV)

So much of life is built on purpose.

  • Chairs are built for sitting.
  • Pens are made for writing.
  • Phones are made for chatting.
  • Books and movies are produced to tell great stories.
  • Seasons are launched to determine champions.

For what great purpose is your life built? Is it to quietly build your “brand”? Or is it something else, for something more?

The Bible over and over points to purpose. The word “purpose” marks its pages 77 times. I believe God wants us to get it right. Just like Jesus, our life purpose is built for worship. And the best outward expression of our worship is selfless service, serving the purpose of Another.

King David largely got this right … and was able to “rest” in the end. He served God’s purpose in his own generation.

Reflect: Whose purpose are you truly serving? Where does God fit in your purposes in life? How much of Him drives your purpose? Who else might need this kind of encouragement and direction today?

A prayer to consider: LORD Jesus, thank You for establishing good life purpose for us. I trust Your outline for life purpose as best.

Help me to let it play out royally in how I treat others. I want to love, serve and honor You, making You as big as You really are in my life, and to love my neighbor as myself. Keep building life purpose in me through proper worship and selfless service.

May others see good life purpose playing out in me. And help them to be confident in their purpose, finding joy and rest in You too. Amen.
