Athlete, We Are Not Alone in the Fight

We Are Not Alone in the Fight

1  "Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle."

Psalm 144:1 (NIV)

Are you up for a good fight? Do you need to get some more competitive juices flowing? Do you understand that there are enemies of your soul who would love to unseat you and take you down? Are you looking for motivation and encouragement to compete?

Look no further. Stop right here. Understand that the LORD is always up for a good fight, determined to win, and committed to helping us fight to victory too. Psalm 144 talks all about this. Here's what we find:

  1. God is a WARRIOR. There's nothing passive about Him. His great love makes Him fight for the hearts of men.

  2. God TRAINS. He loves to help us fight too. He wants us participating with Him, rejecting passivity and competing for something bigger than ourselves.

  3. God DEFENDS. He fights for us and with us. He doesn't leave us alone on the battlefront.

  4. God CARES. He cares to win and cares that we are safe, protected, valued, loved. That's really moving! No other god cares like the LORD Jesus. Not one.

  5. God DELIVERS. He delivers FROM and delivers TO. Enemies get routed, overturned. Truth and justice triumph. Love wins. Peace prevails. The LORD brings wins.

God is committed to getting wins … and seeing to it that we learn to fight well, win with honor, and experience victory with Him too. You gotta love a God who gets in the fight like this.

That's the motivation, confidence and encouragement I'm looking for. You too?

Reflect: Are you fighting or fleeing? What's your biggest battlefront? Who's your trainer and defender? Where is your victory?
