12,13 "I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. Surely the righteous will praise Your name, and the upright will live in Your presence."
Psalm 140:12-13 (NIV)
Michael Jordan is considered the greatest basketball player of all time, not just because he was a prolific scorer and repeated champion; he was a complete player, heralded for playing both ends of the floor terrifically well. As a defender, MJ garnered nine All-NBA First Team awards, more than anyone in history. Michael made stops and shut down opponents like no one else.
The LORD is like MJ. Here's how ... He's one terrific defensive force, committed to defending His own anytime, anywhere. He's brilliant in supporting the needy and G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) in upholding the upright. The poor and the righteous always get His gaze and help. He makes crucial stops on the enemies of our souls and wills justice and the just to victory in the end. They will stand triumphant. He'll see to it.
Reflect: Is the LORD's commitment to playing terrific defense translating into confidence in your life? Are you taking rank with the poor and needy, with the righteous and upright too? Do they feel your love and support? Are you committed to defending like Him?
Prayer to consider today: LORD, Your devotion to defense is so moving, powerful, praiseworthy. Raise my game in defending justice and the honor of Your Name too. Help me support the poor and needy, the righteous and upright, as I ought. I'm joining Your holy game plan.
