9,10 "He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment — to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ."
Ephesians 1:9,10 (NIV)
A basketball's purpose is found in a hoop. A volleyball's purpose is found in a net. A golf ball's purpose is found in a cup. A score board's purpose is found in a game. Where's a man's purpose found?
Our purpose is best found outside ourselves too. It's found in a team, in groups, among family, in good community, in proper context, in a “better together.” It's there where we find our “why.” When we lose ourselves to a cause greater than ourselves, we find ourselves. That's what Jesus says.
We struggle with purpose when we live disconnected, when we live largely outside the team concept. It doesn't go so well. Meaning dries up and loneliness sets in.
Here's good news. God is purpose-driven. He's got a plan and continually expresses it. It's chiefly executed through His Son. Jesus is the purpose-driver. He unites heaven and earth under God's banner. His mission is to connect the dots everywhere, to build God's team around Him. Nobody brings it better.
When we connect with Christ, we connect with God's eternal purposes. When we unite with Christ, we find our highest purpose. The better the connection, the better the purpose-driven living.
So let's stay connected with Jesus. Let's seek Him. His seekers find a steady stream of purpose, of dots connecting and life mattering.
Reflect: Are you finding enough life purpose and experiencing purpose-driven living? How is Christ connecting with you? How are you uniting with Him?
Prayer to consider today: LORD, don't let me look in other, empty places to find meaning and purpose. Keep me united with Christ in fresh adventure. Thank You for purposing to unite me with Him. It makes all the difference in the world!
