See With Your Heart

18,19  "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe."

Ephesians 1:18,19 (NIV)

Here are five terrific quotes from Helen Keller, beloved, blind and deaf American author:

  • "Blindness separates people from things; deafness separates people from people."
  • "Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows."
  • "A bend in the road is not the end of the road … unless you fail to make the turn."
  • "The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision."
  • "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart."

Which one grabs you most? I like all five, but what stirs me most are the last two: vision is more than sight … and the heart sees the best and most beautiful. That blind woman could sure see well!

Helen Keller also tracks well with the apostle Paul. In today's Scripture, Paul prays for people's HEARTS to see these two things:

  1. HOPE. Hope in Him is worth it. A glorious inheritance in Him and through Him awaits His faithful followers. God calls us to this hope.
  2. GOD’S POWER. God’s power is unrivaled, unbeatable and active in those who believe. He wants those in Christ to know by experience His power working in and through them.

Hope 'n Power, what a pair! God's placed them in view to be seen by our hearts. You don't want to be blind to this.

Reflect: How's your heart vision? Are you seeing hope alive in you? Are you seeing God's power at work in you? Are you praying like Paul that others would see hope and power come alive in them too?

A prayer to consider: LORD, of all the ways I see, help me to keep seeing You in my heart! May I keep experiencing hope and power through Christ made known to me.
